On the eve of the HSJ Patient Safety Awards, we're heading to Manchester with Chris, his mother, Rutland House Community Trust representatives, and local council leaders to share our story.
The Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland Connected Care Programme has given over 2,000 residents access to a Whzan Blue Box. Nearly half of the care homes across LLR have integrated the technology into their teams—some even naming it—gaining confidence and embracing the transformative power of digital health innovations.
Carers use the Blue Box every 28 days to monitor residents and detect early signs of deterioration. By using NEWS2 as a common language, they provide better quality information to clinicians, which supports early intervention and personalized care pathways.
This programme has delivered cost savings, improved efficiency, and freed up more time for direct care. It has boosted data confidence across the system, fostered trusted relationships, empowered the workforce, and most importantly, helped people live fuller, healthier lives.
People like Chris, who has graciously opened his home to share his story—a story we hope will inspire change and improve outcomes for individuals with additional needs, enabling them to live longer and more fulfilling lives. According to the LeDeR report, 42% of people with additional needs have died avoidable deaths. Imagine the impact we could have if everyone had access to telehealth support.
